Music in Review: Best 13 local albums of ’13
Chris Hislop looks back at his favorite music picks for 2013
Here we go! The annual best of (locals) list! (The) Hislop’s top 13 in ’13. A bakers dozen. The tunes that were cooked up and delivered this year are a batch I will never forget. The choices were vast, and, per usual, difficult to pare down. I stared at each and every one through the glass case and salivated at the sheer wealth of the offerings that were stacked high. There are no losers in my book, but alas, I had to choose just 13. It has been so much fun consuming all the music I’ve been privy to for the last, well, 13 years I’ve lived here on the Seacoast. Watching bands grow, develop, come, go, and retool is a piece of my life I’m forever grateful for.– READ MORE

New Hampshire’s Supermachine helps make up for Priyanka Chopra on Thursday Night Football
It’s now Week 10 in the NFL’s 2013 season, and the league is still trotting out Priyanka Chopra’s “In My City” for its Tuesday Night Football theme song. We think this is the worst intro song in televised sports history – nevermind that the tired Priyanka looks like a junior varsity Kim Kardashian in the clip – and after more than two months of it we can’t say it’s grown on us at all. We still roll our eyes every time. – READ MORE

Banding together: Joe Young, The Connection and Supermachine to play 19th annual Spotlight Awards
The sentiment of members from three bands that will grace The Music Hall stage for the 19th Spotlight Awards ceremony is easily summed up — “awesome.”
Another shared position: On Thursday, April 18, it’s the place to be.
The awards are great, performing on the historical stage incredible, but sharing with and meeting members and supporters of creativity — that’s the evening’s significant ingredient.
That in turn, (again paraphrasing), makes performing before this crowd all the greater honor, say musicians David Nebbia of Supermachine, singer songwriter Joe Young, and Brad Marino of the Connection. READ MORE

Gossip: Lee Kenyon really loves Supermachine
By this time Supermachine has spent a glorious day at SXSW, in Austin, Texas, as an invited band. But before leaving, member David Nebbia called to share some important related news.
“What we’d planned was a small tour; get in a van, play a few shows on the way down, then the showcase at SXSW …; a big rush, because it was the only way we could afford to go,” says Nebbia. READ MORE (scroll down)

Ready to Rumble: 2013 Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble bands revealed
Every year Anngelle Wood amazes me. How does the host of Boston Emissions find 24 new bands — 24 new and awesome bands — to play the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble?.
Rock hates middle age — remember all that “I hope I die before I get old” and “It’s better to burn out than fade away” stuff? But now well into its 30s, after literally hundreds of bands, the Rumble is better than ever. READ MORE

Gossip: They’re a machine. A Supermachine. | SeacoastOnline.com
They’re a machine
Supermachine just finished recording its freshman debut — just 11 months after forming. This has to be the fastest band in the East. It recorded at Mad Oak in Boston with Benny Grotto and will release with Small Stone of Detroit, Mich., likely this spring, says member David Nebbia.
If you missed its tale, told in an earlier column, Small Stone contacted Supermachine after it released a three-song EP, cut as a club promo. “A label rep heard us, contacted us, we started talking, he heard more tunes and wanted to sign us,” says Nebbia. “Pretty cool.” Supermachine was a mere three months old. Notes and Pics: Small Stone Records Showcase in Somerville, MA, 11.03.12
It was the night of a thousand riffs. At very least 100-150 very well purposed. A Small Stone Records showcase is always an occasion and this year’s Boston to-do was no exception. The scene was the Radio bar in Somerville, and though The Brought Low dropped off at the last minute owing to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the lineup boasted nine bands — Boston natives Mellow Bravo stepped in to fill the hole, playing earlier than the NYC trio would have — and it was front to back quality between them, Blackwolfgoat, who opened and also played in between sets, Supermachine, Infernal Overdrive, Lord Fowl, Freedom Hawk, Roadsaw, Lo-Pan and Gozu. If there is one end of summer event that is not to be missed, it is The Rise Above Fest founded by Seether. Joining Seether are fellow rockers Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Black Stone Cherry and Otherwise. While the name of the festival derives from one of Seether’s hit songs “Rise Above This”, both the song and the festival have much more meaning to the band, especially lead singer Shaun Morgan. NH Magazine Best of NH 2012 – Editor’s Pick – Hard Rock Band
Storming out of New Hampshire’s quaint Seacoast comes Supermachine, the band with teeth-rattling rumble-in-your-chest bass, the loudest drums, intense hook-laden riffs and vocals provided by “fire-slingin'” vocalist David Nebbia. Guitarist Jay Fortin and bassist Paul Jarvis are both founding members of Scissorfight and are joined by Nebbia and drummer Mike “Mick” McNeil. NH MAGAZINE
